Wool, Silk, and Silence

“Some materials speak in whispers. In silence, I hear them best.”

Handmade felt collage with stitched patchwork squares in ochre, white, and grey, centered around a deep red motif, adorned with turquoise merino wool and small blue textile accents.

Wool and silk—so different in texture, yet so deeply connected in my practice—form a quiet dialogue between softness and strength, light and weight, memory and presence. Each holds a different energy: wool with its grounded warmth and resilience, silk with its delicate shimmer and breath-like lightness. Together, they shape a language that is gentle but profound.

These materials do not shout. They unfold slowly, requiring silence to be truly heard. It is within that silence—often the silence of exile, solitude, and reflection—that my compositions come alive. I do not rush them. I listen. I touch. I respond.

There is a stillness at the heart of my process that allows the materials to lead. In this silence, wool reveals its earthy truth, while silk offers moments of grace and light. I work alone, away from the gaze of others, because creation, for me, is intimate—like prayer. It requires an inner quiet where form can arise not from performance but from presence.

Wool, Silk, and Silence speaks to the space I inhabit while creating: a space of retreat, meditation, and deep listening. It is there that materials become more than materials—they become voices, memories, and companions.
